for Job Interviews
The best way to improve interview skills is through practice. To help students prepare and ensure they are able to secure the best jobs, SSBEN provide a Mock Interview training program called Interview Assurance. It provides each student with a structured, simulated interview conducted by industry professionals that emulates a real-life job interview. Each student receives:
- A 15 minute simulated interview experience
- Feedback evaluation
- Certificate of completion
Mock interviews can be organised for a year group or class and customised to your needs. If you’d like to know more click here to arrange a quote.
For today’s youth, getting a great job that they love is the first step to building a long and rewarding career. The job market is competitive, sometimes there are 100’s of applicants for one job. It’s vital to make a good first impression during a job interview, in fact this is one of the most important aspects of the job search.
Building skills and confidence through a mock interview will assist students with the types of answers that impress potential employers. A job interview is the ideal opportunity to showcase their knowledge and enthusiasm, and convince the employer they are the best person for the job.
Recruiters decide who to employ based on the interview, students who are not well prepared may miss out on some great opportunities. It is the one-on-one interaction, where you have the opportunity to talk directly to the recruiter, which will motivate the company to hire you.
Dress to Impress
Select your interview outfit in advance. If the position is in an office, wear corporate attire and if you’re applying for a trade position, it’s still a good idea to dress well. Ensure your shoes are clean and your outfit is well ironed.
Research the Employer
Find out as much as you can about the employer before the interview. Be prepared with your list of questions to ask at the end of the interview. Ensure you know the exact location of the interview and how long it will take to get there.
Tell me about Yourself
This is probably one of the most popular questions that employers ask school leavers. Be prepared for this question and rehearse your answer. Be sure to answer the question with things about you that fit in with the role you are applying for.
It’s always advisable to arrive a few minutes early for the interview; it gives you the opportunity to relax. Always turn off your mobile phone prior to the interview. Lastly, use a firm handshake and look the interviewer in the eye during the meeting. Remember to smile.
